This study looked at the meaning of events from player selection to the end of the Olympics based on interviews of the women's basketball team members who won the silver medal at the 23rd LA Olympic Games in 1984, and how such experiences impacted their personal lives. The results of the analysis are as follows. First, the one-dimensionally recorded results of the Korean women's basketball team’s journey to Korea’s first Olympic silver medal in a ball game were reconstructed along with their specific activities during the whole process. Second, in the days of the Olympic boycott, the Korean women's basketball team was able to defeat its rival Chinese counterpart through intensive training in Taereung. This experience carried over to overcoming problems that the players encountered in their daily life. Third, the Korean women's basketball team’s match also provided a boost in national pride to the Korean people including those living abroad, especially during the chaotic 1980s. The national team members were used by the Chun Doo-hwan administration as tools for the nation, and the results of various competitions were used to turn their eyes away from political issues. The results were able to attract the public’s attention as the military government wanted, but through television and newspapers, the people were happy together and could be comforted for a while.
