말하기의 정치와 듣기의 윤리 : ‘4.16구술증언사업’의 진행 과정과 그 함의
이 논문은 세월호 참사 이후 유가족의 진상규명 운동에 대한 지지활동으로서 2015년 6월부터 2019년 2월 현재까지 약 3년 8개월 동안 다양한 학문 분야의 구술 연구자들이 진행해 온 ‘4.16구술증언사업’의 진행 과정을 개괄하고 그 특징과 의의를 논의하는 데 목적이 있다. 본문에서는 먼저 ‘4.16구술증언사업’을 시작하게 된 배경 을 소개한 뒤, 2015년 6월부터 2019년 2월 현재까지 총 3차에 걸쳐 진행된 ‘4.16 구술증언사업’의 진행 과정을 시간적 흐름에 따라 서술한다. 또, ‘4.16구술증언사업’ 이 갖는 특수한 성격과 그로 인해 진행 중에 직면해야 했던 한계와 문제점에 대해 살 펴본다. 그리고 마지막 부분에서는 이 사업이 갖는 함의에 대해서 간단히 정리해 본 다. 결론적으로 저자는 ‘4.16구술증언사업’이 공식적인 애도를 억압하는 국가에 대항 하여 투쟁하는 참사 피해자들에 대한 구술연구자들의 적극적인 지지의 표현이자, 중 요한 현대사적 사건에 대한 기록화를 넘어 참사 피해자, 특히 단원고 희생 학생 유가 족 부모의 ‘말하기의 정치’를 ‘듣기의 윤리’로 수용하고, 피해자와 일반 시민 간의 공 감과 공동체적 애도를 실천하는 행위였음을 밝힌다.

The Politics of Speaking and the Ethics of Listening : The Progress of the 4.16 Oral Testimony Project and Its Implications
This paper aims to outline the 4.16 oral testimony project, which has been carried out by oral researchers from different disciplines for about three years and eight months from June 2015 to February 2019. It also discusses the project’s characteristics and significance as an civic support activity for the bereaved families of the Sewol ferry disaster in 2014. The paper introduces the background of the 4.16 oral testimony project and describes the three-step progress of the project in detail. Then, it discusses the unique nature of the project and the problems it has faced so far. Ultimately, the 4.16 oral testimony project has been an attempt to support the victims of the Sewol ferry disaster who wish to mourn the unexpected death of their children against the state which has rejected official mourning f or t hem. The p roject has als o been a p ractice of c ommunity mourning, not simply by recording an important modern historical event but by embracing their politics of speaking and practicing the ethics of listening.
