대한민국 핸드볼 역사의 주역 ‘고병훈’에 대한 구술사 연구
본 연구는 1988년 제24회 서울올림픽에서 대한민국 구기 종목 역사상 첫 올림픽 금메달을 획득하였던 대한민국 국가대표 여자 핸드볼팀의 감독이자, 그 후 대한민국 핸드볼 종목과 교육의 지속적 발전을 위해 헌신한 고병훈의 활동과 업적을 구술사를 통해 알아보고자 했다. 본 연구를 통해 얻은 고병훈의 업적에 대한 구술사 연구 결과 는 다음과 같이 요약된다. 첫째, 고병훈은 중학교 시절 핸드볼을 처음 접하여 김제고 등학교, 경희대학교의 핸드볼팀에서 선수로 생활했다. 둘째, 대학졸업 후 체육 교사로 재직하면서 지도 학교 핸드볼팀을 구성하고 그 후 계속하여 우수한 성적을 거두었고, 초당약품 감독으로 취임하여 역시 많은 우승을 했다. 또한 제24회 서울올림픽 대한민 국 여자 핸드볼팀의 감독을 맡아 올림픽 금메달을 획득했다. 그 이후 실업팀 감독 및 국가대표 감독을 역임했다. 셋째, 대한핸드볼협회의 전무이사 및 경기력향상위원장으 로서, 어린 선수들을 발굴하는 시스템을 도입하고, 대한민국 핸드볼의 지속적인 성장 을 위해 스포츠 행정가로서 역시 많은 노력을 했다.

Oral History Research on ‘Byeong-Hoon Ko’, the Leading Contributor of Korean Handball
This study was carried out to investigate the accomplishments of Byeong-Hoon Ko who won the first Olympic gold medal for handball at the 24th Seoul Olympic Games in 1988. The findings of this socio-historical review over his life are as follows. First, Byeong Hoon Ko initially started handball at Kimje High School and played for the Kyung-hee University handball team. Second, after graduating from Kyung-hee University, he worked as a physical education teacher and organized a handball team: it was the moment to build his reputation as an effective coach based on his unique characteristics and leadership. He proceeded to win the Olympic gold medal for the 24th Seoul Olympic Women's Handball Team. Since then, he had served as a national team coach. Third, as the managing director of the Korean Handball Association and the Chairman of the Performance Improvement Committee, he organized and introduced an organizational system for the continued growth of the Korean handball.
